Someone would be a hero if they tabbed this one out for Lap Steel
short pedal steel solo in the middle.

...not that I'd be able to play it yet, though my wife says my songs are almost beginning to sound like music.

Am I close? That solo sounds great. You can tell that he is the one who played the solo on Hank's "Wedding Bells". Thanks for the tab!

With all the threads about slants lately, this tab and video might be of interest. I took the melody from a study by 19th century classical guitarist Fernando Sor and added a bass line to it to include 20 different slants. Forward and reverse, but all two-strings only. Sort of an intermediate "slants workout". It's not a very good demonstration of technique, like Mike Neer's, but might be a good practice exercise if you like classical guitar music.

Help
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so if not please tell me where would be best.
Does anyone know where I might find tab for Tom Morrell's "Wagon Wheels", off his CD "Juglin Cats" track 8? This is for dobro. Thanks.

suger Moon posted by andy in 2010
It's been a year and a half since you posted Suger Moon on here Andy. Just to let you know I sure appreciate it. I have practiced that one everyday. Finally almost have it memorized. It's fun to play and sounds real nice.
Should you have any more c6th 6string tabs to post I sure would use them. Or even tabs in other 6 string tunings.
Thanks so much and have a great week.

Kawohikukapulani – the Jerry Byrd video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5d9w2d6nQo
These later performances by Jerry are some of my favourites, and many forum members will be familiar with this particular video. This transcription is limited to pitches and approximate duration. I have transcribed it here using Tuxguitar. The programme is quite good for standard guitar of seven strings and it is free. While working with the audio, please bear in mind the difficulty of interpreting the steel guitar within the Tuxguitar programme.
The first nine bars were played out of meter. The values are pretty close, and I welcome any corrections or suggestions. There are several long slides, vibratos, and broad arpeggios. Variations in the speed of the slides and runs are part of the emotional feel. An absolutely accurate interpretation of Jerry’s nuanced delivery would be worthy of a PhD thesis, but that would not be nearly as much fun as giving the arrangement one’s own personal touch. A PDF is available.
PS On that first C7th chord, it is probably better to go to a double stop on the 6th fret instead of the reverse slant I indicated.
Thanks to Steve Green for the video download.

Beyond The Sunset C6 Lap Steel - My First Attempt
Here is my first attempt at finding a tune and tabbing it out. I'm putting it here as much for constructive criticism as anything else, but if it proves to be useful to beginners like me, then that's great too.

GFI SM10 3/4, 1937 Gibson EH-150, 2 - Rondo SX Lap Steels and a Guyatone 6 String C6. Peavey 400 and a Roland 40 Amps. Behringer Reverb Pedal.

Hi Jim,
I see you wrote that in the key of Eb. Not a very common key for Steel solos unless you have a horn in the band? I would transpose it to D major ( move it all down one fret) OR move it up a fret to E Major. Those are more common to Spanish guitar players who may chord along some backup for you.
I did a quick ClicTab in the key of D and you will note I divided the music up into measures. This is 4/4 time so it maintains 4 beats to the bar.
Not being critical OK....
You are doing great and I hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments Roy...no particular reason for the Eb, just where it sounded right with the audio track I was following. Thanks for the transpose and adding the measures.

Hi John:
Oh it's great to see a new non pedal tab posted.
Thank you. I printed it off and have been playing it this morning and like it. Now I hope to find this song played so I can hear it.
I have a question about measure 8. I seem to automatically want to resolve that measure with the bar on fret 12 with strings 2 and 5 rather than the 10/9 as written. Am I wrong doing that?
I really like your format, it's perfect for me.
I hope you'll sometime be able to gift us with more of your tab work.
Sincerely
Dick

Hi Dick - Measure 8 in Stacy Philip's D tuning tab correctly reads notes FD DF-BD with the latter two being tied together with a beam so I slide from DF to BD to get the G7 chord with some vibrato, but maybe it's better to move the G7 to the seventh fret. This was just a quick conversion to hear what it would sound like in C6.
I'll post more stuff later.
John
